At a ceremony earlier this week, the City of Inglewood broke ground on a $261-million transportation and public realm improvement project that will connect the K Line with SoFi Stadium, the Kia Forum, and Intuit Dome.

Elevate Inglewood Development Corporation, consisting of Plenary Americas, Swinerton, and Walter P. Moore, is to deliver the the first phase of the Inglewood Transit Connector using funding provided entirely by the State of California and Metro. Plans call for construction of three new mobility hubs, the most prominent of which will sit at the intersection of Florence Avenue and Market Street and connect to the K Line's Downtown Inglewood Station with a pedestrian bridge.

In total, the project will bring more than 1,000 parking space, rideshare pick-up and drop-off zones, new retail space, and a ten-bay bus plaza to Market Street. Plans also call for new sidewalks, landscaping, lighting, and wayfinding signage along Market, as well as Manchester Boulevard and Queen Street.

While a groundbreaking ceremony was held today, true heavy construction is set to begin in November and continue through Spring 2028, occurring mostly at night and moving block by block. The improvements are expected to help with transportation during the 2028 Summer Olympics, as well as the the roughly 60 major events which occur each year at the city's venues. Later phases of the project are to include the addition of event-day bus lanes running north-to south, connecting with both the K and the C Lines.

Streetscape improvements and bus lanes were not the first choice for solving game-day mobility between the K Line and Inglewood's sports venues. The City initially proposed the construction of a grade-separated people mover system, which despite attracting well over $1 billion in funding, fell apart in 2024 in the face of political opposition. The new project is designed so as to not preclude the construction of a people mover, should funding become available at some point in the future.
