Last week, the California Department of Housing and Community Development announced $185 million in federal funding that will go toward the construction of 18 projects generating 1,284 new affordable rental homes for extremely low-income households across the state.
The allocations from the National Housing Trust Fund include awards to roughly $83 million for six different projects located within Los Angeles County. They include:
The 101

As part of the 2022-2023 round of funding, Jamboree Housing Corporation will receive $13.5 million for The 101. The project, named for its address at 101 E. Pacific Coast Highway, will include 52 one- and two-bedroom apartments above parking for 20 vehicles, according to information included on a project website.

The Garvey

The Coalition for Responsible Community Development has been awarded more than $15.4 million for The Garvey, a proposed affordable housing development at 1434 W. Compton Boulevard in Compton. Plans call for a total of 75 apartments, according to multiple published sources.
Willowbrook 3

Linc Housing Corp. has secured $8 million for its Willowbrook 3 development, which is planned for a trio of sites located at 12611, 12617, and 12625 S. Willowbrook Avenue in the unincorporated community of Willowbrook. Plans call for a new three-story building featuring 51 apartments with ground-floor community space and a new parking lot.
Estrella Azul

A Community of Friends (ACOF) will receive nearly $17.7 million for the Estrella Azul development, which would replace the Las Palomas Hotel in Boyle Heights with a larger affordable housing complex. Plans call for a new four-story structure at 2201 E. 1st Street featuring 80 apartments and supportive services.
300 Alamitos

The final Los Angeles County project in the 2022-2023 funding round is Mercy Housing California's 300 Alamitos Development in Long Beach, which will receive $13.6 million. Plans call for the construction of a new five-story building featuring 82 apartments.
20th Street Apartments

As part of the 2024-2025 funding round, Venice Community Housing will receive more than $14.7 million for its 20th Street Apartments in Santa Monica. Plans call for the construction of a new seven-story edifice featuring 78 apartments above subterranean parking for 26 vehicles.
