Modular units are on the rise for a new South Los Angeles affordable housing development from SoLa Impact, the company's founder announced in a social media post last month.
The Executive Directive 1 project, now rising from a corner lot at 6200 S. Broadway in Florence, will consists of a five-story building featuring 66 residential units - including 51 apartments for low-income households, 14 apartments for moderate-income households, and one unrestricted manager's unit - as well as amenities.
Open Office is designing the low-rise structure, which is shown in plans with an exterior of painted concrete, stucco, and vertical siding.
The prefabricated modular units for the project are being supplied by SoLa Impact subsidiary Model Z. The use of modular units allowed for a process that would otherwise take up to 10 months to be completed in 10 days, according to SoLa Impact founder and chief executive officer Martin Muoto.
SoLa Impact and Open Office are also working on projects elsewhere in South Los Angeles along Vermont Avenue, Normandie Avenue, and Crenshaw Boulevard.
