At a ceremony on November 12, LA Family housing placed its first module at The Cielo, a new affordable housing complex taking shape in the Chatsworth community.

The project, located at 21300 Devonshire Street, will consist of a four-story edifice containing 99 units of permanent supportive housing when completed. Plans also call for one manager's unit, a small parking lot at street level, a 1,000-square-foot community room, a 5,000-square-foot courtyard, and offices for on-site supportive services.

The apartments would consist entirely of studio floor plans and be priced for renters earning between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income level, according to information included with the project's entitlement application.

"This modular project represents an innovative shift in how we think about building housing, and it is a model for how we can create needed permanent supportive housing more quickly and sustainably,” said Councilmember John Lee in a news release. “The Cielo is not just a building, it will be a community where people can connect, be restored, and truly feel at home."

The project is one of five modular supportive housing developments that are being built through a $40-million Measure HHH innovation challenge award given to the team of LA Family Housing, Abode Communities, and Mercy Housing California. The projects, eventually totaling 398 residential units, also includes apartment buildings in Harbor City and San Pedro.
