On the western side of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center campus in Beverly Grove, the former Thalian Building has been razed to clear the way for a new research tower.
The project, located at 8730 W. Alden Drive, was permitted in January 2026. A filing with L.A. Department of Building and Safety describes the structure a 10-story, Type 1A high-rise building.
A website from construction firm Rudolph & Sletten for outreach to potential subcontractors sheds additional light on plans for the site. The building would consist of 300,000 square feet of floor area, and include a lobby, a vivarium, conference space, a cafe, laboratories, offices, and other facilities to support research activities.
A rendering depicts the tower with a contemporary design and a glass exterior. City records list the project architect as a principal with CO Architects.
Other upcoming construction at the main Cedars campus includes a proposed patient tower at the intersection of San Vicente and Beverly Boulevards. Cedars is also building a new patient tower at its Marina Del Rey hospital which is scheduled to open later this year.
