Construction is complete billed as the first permanent supportive housing complex in  Westchester.

The Redtail Crossing apartments, developed by Community Corp. of Santa Monica, rose from the former site of a church at 8333 Airport Boulevard. The new five-story building features 102 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments above subterranean parking for 78 vehicles.

KFA Architecture designed the contemporary podium-type building, which includes more than 25,000 square feet of landscaped outdoor spaces, as well as community rooms and case management offices for on-site service providers.

The apartments serve households earning between 15 and 60 percent of the area median income level, according to a  news release.

The project is in part the result of n AB 721, sponsored by former California Assemblymember Richard Bloom, which overturned a covenant from the 1940s that banned multifamily housing on the property - as well as Jews and people of color from. AB 721 prevents density restrictions in racially-motivated private covenants from blocking the development of affordable housing.
