One year after we last dropped by, work is complete for the Washington Arts Collective, a new affordable and supportive housing complex in Mid-City.
The project, developed by Meta Housing Corp., replaced a pair of city-owned surface parking lots at 4600 and 4601 Washington Boulevard with four-story buildings containing a combined total of 56 apartments. That total includes 20 units for formerly homeless families and individuals, 35 units for low-income families, and space for an on-site manager.
Y&M Architects designed the contemporary low-rise buildings, which include a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments above ground-floor gallery and rehearsal space. Other project elements include courtyards, meeting rooms, music rooms, and parking for 100 vehicles.
The project was built with funds from a mix of local and state sources, including tax credit equity, bonds, Measure HHH funds, and No Place Like funds.
West Los Angeles-based Meta Housing Corp. is one of Los Angeles County's most prolific builders of affordable, and has built larger projects in communities such as Glendale, North Hills, and Canoga Park.
