The City of Monrovia has given the green light to a proposed mixed-use development in its downtown.
The project, which is being developed by Blake Griggs Development, would rise from an approximately 1.6-acre property at 701 Myrtle Avenue. Plans call for the construction of a new five-story building featuring 204 apartments above 2,370 square feet of commercial space and a 329-car garage.
According to an environmental report, the apartment would come in a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom floor plans. The project would include 20 units to be set aside for rent by low- and moderate-income renters.
AO is designing the apartment complex, which would include a rooftop deck, a pool, a dog park, and a courtyard.
Construction is expected to occur over a roughly 21-month period after groundbreaking.
The project is an example of development creeping north in Monrovia, which has seen approximately 1,000 new apartments approved or built within walking distance of the city's A Line stop since 2016.
