At the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Western Avenue in Hollywood, the exterior of a new mixed-use apartment complex American Commercial Equities is nearing completion.
The project, which replaced a shopping center at 5420 Sunset Boulevard, consists of multiple six-story buildings that will contain 735 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above 95,000 square feet of commercial space, and parking for 1,400 vehicles.
According to a leasing brochure, an approximately 60,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market is to anchor the building's ground-floor retail, replacing a Food4Less that previously occupied the site. Sephora has also been identified as a ground-level tenant.
Designed by TCA Architects, the contemporary apartment complex is organized around a T-shaped paseo connecting to Western, Sunset, and Serrano Avenue. Plans also show a courtyard at the center of the complex.
Completion is expected later this year.
The project is one of several large developments set to reshape Western Avenue in Hollywood, including a proposed project from The Georgetown Co. which would create a 251-unit apartment complex just south of 5420 Sunset.
