A senior affordable housing development is in the works a short walk from the site of Metro's under-construction Wilshire/La Cienega Station, according to an item being considered by the Beverly Hills City Council.

According to a staff report, Related California has teamed with Brisa Development Partners on the proposed project, which would rise from a site located at 214-216 S. Hamilton Drive. Plans call for the construction of a new eight-story  building featuring 82 studio and one-bedroom apartments, which would be reserved for renters earning at or below 30, 50, and 60 percent of the area median income level.

Related and Brisa are expected to submit a formal application for review in the coming weeks. The project is also slated to take advantage of the new exemption from the California Environmental Quality Act created earlier this year with the adoption of AB 130.

Should the project secure approvals and entitlements, construction could commence as early as 2027, with completion anticipated by 2029.

The developers are seeking $500,000 in financial support from the City of Beverly Hills to allow the project to apply for the $101-million in funding for affordable housing in areas impacted by the January wildfires announced recently by state officials.

With the emergence of the Hamilton Drive project, Beverly Hills is now considering two different affordable housing developments within its borders. The City is also working with West Hollywood Community Housing Corp. on a project which could bring up to 252 senior apartments to a site along 3rd Street.

The Related-Brisa venture, which recently entered an agreement to purchase the project site, is not the first proposal for the Hamilton Drive site. An earlier Builder's Remedy application had called for redeveloping the property with an eight-story, 90-unit apartment building.
