Metro's Crenshaw/LAX (K) Line has spawned another mixed-use neighbor in Inglewood.

Crews from KCS West recently razed a pair of commercial buildings at the southwest corner of Florence and La Brea Avenues, clearing the way for the construction of a residential-retail complex dubbed the La Brea Lofts. The project, which is addressed at 201 N. La Brea Avenue, will consist of a six-story edifice featuring 144 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above ground-floor commercial space.

Renderings of the La Brea Lofts depict a contemporary podium-type building with a curving, corrugated metal exterior that matches the wedge-shaped contour of the La Brea - Florence intersection. Images show balconies along the exterior of the development, as well as a podium-top courtyard and a rooftop amenity deck.

Los Angeles County Assessor's records list the owner of the site as 201 North La Brea, LLC, an Aliso Viejo-based entity linked to Frontera Capital, LLC.

The project site sits directly across La Brea Avenue from Astra, a larger mixed-use complex from Thomas Safran & Associates which will include 242 apartments and ground-floor commercial uses on a site which spans east to Market Street.

Both projects, in addition to sitting within walking distance of the Crenshaw Line's Downtown Inglewood Station, could also find themselves adjacent to Inglewood's $1.4-billion people mover system, which would link the city's historic commercial core to SoFi Stadium and Intuit Dome, the future home of the Los Angeles Clippers.
