Holland Partner Group, which acquired the entitled site at 121 W. 3rd Street last year from Long Beach-based developer Ensemble, is approved for the construction of a new project consisting of 271 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments atop nearly 12,000 square feet and parking for 395 vehicles.

Urban Architecture Lab, which designed the approved project, envisioned an eight-story podium-type building clad in cement, fiber cement boards, glass, and painted plaster. Planned amenities include a fitness center, a club room, a rooftop deck, and multiple open-air courtyards.

At street level, plans also call for a mid-block paseo, allowing pedestrians to cut through the property at street level to reach Pine Avenue one block east.

While it ranks among the larger residential developments now taking shape in Long Beach, the 3rd and Pacific project has been pared down from its original vision. In 2019, Ensemble secured approvals for a larger complex which would have included a 23-story high-rise and up to 345 apartments.

The project is the third in recent years for Holland Partner Group in Long Beach, following the completion of the Volta on Pine development a few blocks north. The Vancouver, Washington-based firm next plans to build 303 apartments on the site of the Congressional Place office complex at 6700 E. Pacific Coast Highway.
