In Vermont Knolls, work has commenced for an infill affordable housing development just west of the Harbor Freeway, according to permits issued by the Department of Building and Safety.
The project, which replaced a parking lot at 8100 S. Figueroa Street, will consist of a three-story building featuring 30 one- and two-bedroom apartments without on-site parking.
Permit records indicates that the project was designed in accordance with the Transit Oriented Communities incentives, which permit larger structures than allowed by zoning rules when a project includes affordable housing and is located near transit. The exact income level to be served by the apartments is not specified in the building permit.
Plans show that Metropolis Architecture is designing 8100 Figueroa, which would be a stucco-clad contemporary building.
City records list the project applicant as Baback Omrani.
Similar affordable housing developments have been pitched for several nearby properties along the Figueroa corridor.
