On the border between the Historic South-Central and Central-Alameda neighborhoods, an empty lot has given way to a new affordable housing complex from developer Highridge Costa.

Now under construction at  2106-2122 S. Central Avenue, the new project from the Gardena-based developer will consist of a five-story building containing 57 studio and one-bedroom apartments with parking for seven on-site staff members.

Funding for the apartment complex includes an allocation from Measure HHH, as well as bonds. In 2019, the total cost of the 2106 Central development was estimated at $30.2 million. Highridge Costa acquired the land for approximately $3.3 million in late 2019, per city records.

Egan Simon Architecture is designing the apartment complex, which is depicted in a rendering as a contemporary podium-type building. Plans show balconies, a street-level recreation room, and a podium-level outdoor deck.

Highridge Costa, in addition to its new Central-Alameda project, has recently completed work on another Measure HHH-funded affordable housing complex near Exposition Park, and is now building 57 apartments on a property along Main Street.
