A 1930s commercial building located two blocks from the Manhattan Beach Pier could give way to a new hotel, according to a recent presentation to the Manhattan Beach Planning Commission.
The project, proposed by applicant Tony Choueke of Beach Man Properties, LLC, would rise from a property located at 1143-1145 Highland Avenue. Plans call for razing the existing commercial building, which houses offices, to clear the way for a new two-to-three-story building featuring a nine-room hotel with a two-car basement garage.
Tomaro Architecture is designing the project, according to plans included with a staff report.
The staff report indicates that the building design is in compliance with many standards of Manhattan Beach's Downtown Design Guidelines, including requirements for a main pedestrian entrance along Highland, an articulated facade, and scale to match nearby structures.
The proposal for Highland Avenue is not the only hotel on the horizon for Manhattan Beach. At 600 Sepulveda Boulevard, a former El Torito restaurant is set to give way for a larger 162-key hotel.
