One block west of Memorial Park in Santa Monica, concrete and rebar are rising at the former site of an automobile tow yard, where local real estate development firm Redcar Properties has received approvals for the construction of a new office complex.
The project, now underway on a half-acre site at 1650 Euclid Street, will result in a new three-story building containing approximately 39,389 square feet of offices above subterranean parking for 131 vehicles.
RAC Design Build and James Corner Field Operations headline the design team for the building, which is shown in renderings with a contemporary exterior and a large rooftop deck. Plans call for two separate wings, connected by a glass bridge, with setbacks above the second and third floors.
Redcar's project just north of Olympic Boulevard is one of a handful of new office buildings set to rise near both Memorial Park and Metro's 17th Street/SMC Station, including a second three-story structure containing just over 26,000 square feet of offices which would rise on a site one block east on 14th Street.
Besides multiple projects in its hometown of Santa Monica, Redcar is also developing a large mass timber office building next to Chinatown Station in Downtown Los Angeles, as well as a smaller-scale project in Culver City's Hayden Tract.
