Just east of the shuttered St. Vincent Medical Center campus in Westlake, the wrapping is off for a new affordable housing complex from Jonathan Rose Companies.
Located at 1999 W. 3rd Street, the roughly $74-million development consists of a a seven-story building that will feature 137 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments. The new housing is to be reserved for renters earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income level.
Brooks + Scarpa is designing the project, along with Tina Chee Landscape Studio and Argento / Graham. In addition to housing, the apartment complex will include amenities such as fitness rooms, lounges, and workspaces. Plans also call for a breezeway to connect the building with the adjoining Miramar Towers, and existing housing complex located on the same property.
The project, a joint venture with Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation, is slated to open later this year.
The existing Miramar Towers building, completed in the 1970s, features 157 homes. The new project was enabled by a lot split of the surrounding property, which allows the applicant to take advantage of unused development rights, as well as land now used as a grass lawn.
