In the unincorporated community of West Carson, construction is in the home stretch for a new affordable housing complex from non-profit developer and service provider PATH Ventures.

The West Carson Villas, built on the former site of an automobile repair garage at 22801-22905 S. Vermont Avenue, consists of a four-story edifice that will feature 111 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments serving low-income and formerly unhoused households.

Half of the new apartments are to be reserved as permanent supportive housing priced for renters earning up to 30 percent of the area median income level. The remaining dwellings will set aside for households earning no more than 60 percent of the median income.

KFA Architecture and Placed Interior Design are designing the West Carson Villas, which front Vermont Avenue with pitched rooflines and an exterior of metal. In addition to housing, plans call for amenities such as a common room, conference centers, a yoga room, a playground, and ground-floor parking for 83 vehicles.

Completion of the West Carson Villas is expected in Summer 2023, general contractor R.D. Olson announced at the time of the project's groundbreaking.

The project is taking shape a few blocks south of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, which is planning a $1.7-billion revamp, as well as a proposed 525-unit residential development from CGI Strategies that would replace an industrial complex at 22107-22133 S. Vermont Avenue.
