Local stakeholders and Los Angeles City officials, are seeking feedback on the Rock the Boulevard project, which aims to add transform a roughly 1.1-mile stretch of Eagle Rock Boulevard between Colorado Boulevard in the north and York Boulevard in the south. While three alternatives are on the table, each options would include variations of:

  • protected bike lanes;
  • upgraded bus stops;
  • shade trees;
  • modifications to traffic medians; and
  • new street furniture such as bike racks, benches, trash bins, and lighting

The folks at Walk Eagle Rock have identified the Hybrid Alternative 2 as their choice, citing it as the best option for those walking, biking, taking transit, and driving.

Funding for the project will come from a nearly $18.5-million grant secured by the City of Los Angeles, sourced from money that would have gone toward the scuttled 710 North extension. Money from cancelled project has been allotted to several multi-modal transportation projects on the Eastside and within Northeast Los Angeles communities, including potential makeovers of Valley Boulevard and Huntington Drive.

Eagle Rock primary east-west corridor - Colorado Boulevard - both serves as the northern bookend to Eagle Rock Boulevard, and is set to see its own array of major transportation investments. A new Metro bus rapid transit line between North Hollywood and Pasadena is planned to travel through Eagle Rock along Colorado, making three stops within the neighborhood.
