Cypress Equity Investments has upsized another of its numerous proposed developments in the City of Santa Monica.
According to a project website, CEI has more than doubled the amount of housing planned for its 2501 Wilshire Boulevard development - a mixed-use complex which would replace a stretch of commercial buildings just east of Douglas Park. Previously envisioned as a four-story structure featuring 71 apartments above ground-floor retail, plans now call for a larger eight-story building featuring 170 residential units - including 17 affordable units - above ground-floor commercial space and a four-level, 253-car subterranean parking garage.
The new development, in addition to more than featuring more than twice the amount of housing as originally planned, also up the amount of affordable housing which would be generated through the project from 12 units to 17.
As in the earlier iteration, Ottinger Architects is designing 2501 Wilshire, which is portrayed in renderings as a contemporary podium-type structure, with a similar look to the prior concept.
The proposed project is one of a number of new developments from CEI in Santa Monica, including a smaller housing and retail complex which would rise a few blocks west at 2025 Wilshire Boulevard. The firm's development pipeline accounts for more than 1,000 apartments in the city.
CEI has also upsized its proposed mixed-use project at 1527 Lincoln Boulevard in Downtown Santa Monica, which also nearly doubled in density from 114 apartments in an original plan to 210 units currently.
