The City of Downey has signed off on a plan to redevelop a late 1950s church near the Rio Hondo with housing.
The project from Seal Beach-based Olson Homes, slated for a roughly 1.29-acre property at 7360 Foster Bridge Boulevard, calls for the construction of 33 townhome-style condominiums. The proposed development would consist of three-bedroom dwellings, ranging from approximately 1,200 to 1,800 square feet in size, with a total of 71 parking spaces.
Project approvals include density bonus incentives permitting a larger development than allowed by zoning rules. In exchange, three of the new homes would be set aside for purchase by moderate-income households.
Elevation plans show the townhomes as Spanish-style buildings with stucco exteriors and tile rooftops.
According to an environmental study adopted by the City of Downey, construction of the Foster Bridge development will occur over a roughly 12-month period.
Olson Homes, in addition to its new Downey project, has also developed for-sale homes in Gardena, Compton, and West Carson.
