At a June 16 ceremony, East End Studios officially broke ground on a new production campus next to the Sixth Street Viaduct in Boyle Heights.
East End Studios Mission, already underway at 2233 E. Jesse Street, will include 245,000 square feet of space - including five soundstages, offices, and other production support facilities.
The approximately $230-million project is expected to create 1,500 temporary construction jobs and 750 permanent jobs, according to an East End Studios news release. Completion is expected in late 2025.
"The Downtown Los Angeles Arts District has long been on our radar as a premier and thriving development market,” said East End Studios managing partner Shep Wainwright. “With its abundant cultural richness and distinctive charm, the area is an exceptionally fitting location for a best-in-class, fully integrated film & television studio campus.”
The groundbreaking ceremony comes months after East End Studios completed its first project in Los Angeles County - a smaller 96,000-square-foot complex in Glendale. The company's future pipeline includes a proposed 406,000-square-foot campus in Glendale and a more than 700,000-square-foot development in the Arts District. The company's portfolio is eventually expected to include five properties with 38 total soundstages.
