New affordable housing is on the rise in South L.A.'s Vermont Knolls neighborhood.

The proposed development, which replaced a series of small commercial buildings at 7524 S. Hoover Street, is linked to both ELK Development and SoLa Impact. The new five-story building will include 79 apartments - all reserved for low- and moderate-income households.

The project utilized the streamlined entitlement pathway created by through the Mayor's Executive Directive 1, as well as density bonus incentives to permit a larger structure than would otherwise be allowed by zoning rules.

A rendering depicts the finished product as a contemporary low-rise structure.

South Los Angeles-based SoLa Impact is one of the city's most prolific builders of affordable and permanent supportive housing, while ELK Development is behind mixed-use projects now taking shape in Koreatown and Hollywood.
