Construction has commenced for a new affordable housing complex in Silver Lake, developer Samuelian Group announced late last month.
The Silver Lake Flats, to be located at 825 Hyperion Avenue, will consist of a six-story building featuring 105 apartments above ground-level parking.
Kevin Tsai Architecture is designing the approximately 77,000-square-foot building, which is described as being inspired by Southern California's courtyard housing tradition.

"A daylit central courtyard, private gardens, and shared outdoor spaces are designed to foster connection while creating a true sense of place for residents," reads a social media post describing the project.
The project will also include a rooftop deck, a community room, a yoga room, a children's playroom, common laundry facilities, and offices for resident services.
R.D. Olson Construction will be the project's general contractor.
Samuelian Group is planning similar projects in Woodland Hills and Echo Park.
