In Downtown Los Angeles, exterior finishes are taking shape at the Colburn School's $335-million expansion on Bunker Hill.

Located at the northwest corner of the intersection of 2nd and Hill Streets on Bunker Hill, the Colburn Center includes a 1,000-seat concert hall, a smaller 100-seat theater, and multiple studios for instruction and rehearsal. The larger performance venue is to be named for the project's primary donors, Terri and Jerry Kohl.

The late Frank Gehry designed the building, which will incorporate a rooftop garden and a publicly-accessible garden accessible from Hill Street. Those spaces will double as outdoor venues for performances, receptions, and other types of events.

The project is the latest in a collection of Gehry-designed Downtown projects such, highlighted by the The Grand (located directly west across Olive Street) and the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

It is also the latest installation in a cluster of cultural destinations on Bunker HIll, including The Broad contemporary art museum, which is also in the midst of an expansion.

Completion of the Colburn Center is expected in 2027.
