The former site of a commercial building near the K Line's Leimert Park Station is slated for redevelopment with affordable housing, according to an application filed with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
The project, slated for the currently vacant site at 4345 S. Crenshaw Boulevard, is being developed by an entity affiliated with Venice Community Housing. The non-profit developer has proposed the construction of a new five-story building featuring 56 apartments above 1,974 square feet of ground-floor commercial uses and parking for 11 vehicles.
Venice Community Housing is utilizing several affordable housing bonus and streamlining measures in the application. Save for a mandatory manager's unit, all of the apartments would be reserved for rent by low- and moderate-income renters.

Bay Area architecture firm Designing Justice+ is designing the project, which is depicted in a rendering as a colorful podium-type apartment complex.
The project is the latest in a recent handful of developments near Leimert Park Station, including a recently-completed mixed-use project a short walk to the north on 43rd Street. A workforce housing project catering to Metro employees is also in the works for a site to the south along Crenshaw Boulevard.
Other ongoing Venice Community Housing projects include new apartments planned or underway in Venice and Santa Monica.
