A 1950s industrial building just east of Glendale Boulevard in Echo Park is up for redevelopment with housing and retail, per an application submitted last week to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.

The proposed development from Standard Oil Realty, planned for a site at 1623 N. Allesandro Street, calls for the construction of a new six-story edifice featuring 152 one- and two-bedroom apartments above 9,823 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and parking for 273 vehicles.

Requested entitlements include a zone change to allow for residential uses on the site of the existing industrial building. As required by Measure JJJ, 18 of the apartments are to be set aside for rent by very low- and extremely low-income households.

Aaron Brumer & Associates is designing the apartment complex, which is depicted in plans as a contemporary six-story development featuring six podium-level courtyards and four rooftop amenity decks.

Construction of the project will require City Council approval due to the requested zone change.

The project site is one of a handful of new developments along the Glendale Boulevard corridor to the north of Sunset in Echo Park, including a 41-unit apartment complex now rising on an abutting property at 1655 Allesandro Street.
