A nursery in the Sawtelle neighborhood is slated to give way to new housing, per a recent application to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.

In late June, an entity affiliated with Intracorp Companies filed plans with the City of Los Angeles seeking entitlements to redevelop a property at 2007-2045 S. Colby Avenue, 11556 W. La Grange Avenue, and 2020-2024 S. Federal Avenue. Plans call for the construction of 40 three-story homes with a total of 80 automobile parking spaces.

The project, in exchange for density bonus incentives to permit more housing than otherwise allowed by zoning rules, will provide two of the homes to very low-income households.

JZMK Partners is designing the townhomes, which will consist of three- and four-bedroom dwellings.

The Sawtelle neighborhood, once home to 26 Japanese nurseries, has seen most of those businesses make way for redevelopment since the mid-20th century - most recently the former Harada Nursery at 1900 S. Sawtelle Boulevard was redeveloped with apartments.

Intracorp, in addition to the new Sawtelle project, is developing apartments in Torrance and for-sale homes in Alhambra.
