In South L.A.'s Florence neighborhood, framing is complete for a new affordable housing complex from Los Angeles-based R2H Development.

Located at 7301 S. Broadway, the project replaced a single-story commercial building with a new four-story edifice that will feature 45 income-restricted apartments on its upper floors.

"The building is designed to promote and revitalize the surrounding community by enhancing the overall curb appeal of Broadway," reads a design narrative provided by JZA Architecture at the time the project was announced. "The communal roof deck with planted areas provides space for various activities for residents and provides views of the surrounding neighborhood."

Planned finishes include fiber cement panels and smooth finish plaster.

The proposed apartment complex joins a handful of similar affordable and permanent supportive housing developments now in the works for Florence, including a new development a few blocks to the east at 67th and Main Streets.

R2H and JZA are also attached to a larger 164-unit affordable housing development planned near the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station.
