A new Executive Directive 1 project is set to bring affordable housing to a site near Metro's Expo/Bundy Station in Sawtelle.
The application, submitted by applicant Lindon Shiao for a property located at 2215 Wellesley Avenue, calls for the construction of a seven-story building featuring 82 studio, one-, and three-bedroom apartments without parking.
As a fully affordable project catering to low- and moderate-income residents, the building would be eligible for density bonus incentives granting permission for a larger structure than otherwise allowed by zoning rules.
Kevin Tsai Architecture is designing the proposed apartment complex, which is shown in renderings with a contemporary look and an exterior of metal and painted stucco.
The project site is located a short walk to the west of Bundy Drive, where Carmel Partners has secured entitlements for a series of larger mixed-income projects which will feature more than 600 apartments when completed. Those buildings, along with similar multifamily projects recently proposed on surrounding blocks, would replace single-family homes which were rezoned for housing due to proximity to the nearby E Line.
