A project website reveals new plans for an affordable housing complex from Community Corp. of Santa Monica just south of Colorado Avenue.

The proposed apartment complex at 1637 Stanford Street, currently named "Stanford," for its location, calls for the construction of a nearly 67,000-square-foot building featuring 71 1 apartments above parking for 54 vehicles.

Plans call for a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwellings, which will be targeted to families earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income level.

Kevin Tsai Architecture is designing Stanford, which is shown in plans as a six-story building featuring a courtyard, a community room, laundry facilities, a garden, a rooftop deck, and offices for on-site staff and service providers.

The project site sits just west of an existing mixed-use complex at 2929 Pennsylvania Avenue where vacant retail space is being converted to housing, and north of a property at 3030 Nebraska Avenue where a four-building high-rise complex could create over 1,600 homes and Santa Monica's tallest buildings.

Community Corp., which remains active in its hometown, has recently extended its work into neighboring Los Angeles and Culver City.
