In South Los Angeles, the wrapping is off for a new affordable housing complex from Abode Communities.
The Carlton, now taking shape on a corner lot at 5407 S. Western Avenue, consists of a four-story building that will feature 60 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments when completed.

Abode Communities expedited the approval of the project using the Mayor's Executive Directive 1. Completion of The Carlton is expected in 2026
Financing for the Carlton includes a combination of low-income housing tax credits with state and local sources.

The near-finished building, designed by Abode, trades orange and yellow accents shown in conceptual renderings to strips of blue and green.
Abode announced the groundbreaking of the Carlton simultaneously with that of a similar affordable housing complex now rising at 8909 S. Central Avenue. The developer is also working on housing projects in Westlake and Chatsworth.
