A staff report to the Santa Monica Architectural Review Board offers a look at updated plans from Hollywood Community Housing Corp. for an affordable housing complex at 1217 Euclid Street.

The project, which is one of two developments that Hollywood Community Housing is now pursuing in Santa Monica, calls for the construction of a six-story building featuring 48 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments above subterranean parking for 40 vehicles.

According to a project website, the apartments are to be rented to households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level.

Kevin Daly Architects is designing the contemporary low-rise building, which will include a community room, laundry facilities, and a rooftop terrace.

"The northwestern building form facing Euclid Street is an integral color stucco with a series of staggered windows, a window pattern carried around the project," states the staff report. "On the Euclid Street elevation, the elevation that has the most solar exposure, is a well-composed screening element proposed as a performative design element. The screening creates a signature design element for the project."

A staff report recommends approval of the design concept.
