A year-and-a-half after breaking ground in Exposition Park, wood framing is now complete for an interim housing complex from service provider and developer Wellnest.
The project, called "The Nest on Exposition," replaced a surface parking lot at 1020 W. Exposition Boulevard with a new four-story building that will feature 25 apartments averaging roughly 300 square feet in size. Plans also call for a laundry facility, offices for service providers, and community rooms.
LOHA is designing the building, which is shown in a rendering with an exterior of corrugated metal.
The Next is being funded by a Project Homekey allocation awarded to Los Angeles County in late 2023. At the time the funding was announced, the Nest was expected to cater to youth in foster care and juvenile probation systems, with 16 apartments to be set aside for participants in the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services Transitional Housing Program Plus.
The Exposition Park project sits across the street from Expo/Vermont Station and a pair of infill developments along the north side of Exposition Boulevard, and northwest of the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art on Vermont Avenue.
