Construction permits issued by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety indicate that service provider and developer Wellnest has commenced work for a new interim housing complex in Exposition Park.

The Nest on Exposition, which will replace surface parking lot at 1020 W. Exposition Boulevard, is portrayed in a rendering as a four-story building that will feature 25 apartments - averaging roughly 300 square feet in size. Plans also call for a laundry facility, offices for service providers, and community rooms.

LOHA is designing the Nest, according to a social media announcement from earlier in 2024, which showed the building with an exterior of corrugated metal.

The project secured funding a Project Homekey allocation awarded to Los Angeles County in late 2023. At the time the funding was announced, the Nest was expected to cater to youth in foster care and juvenile probation systems, with 16 apartments to be set aside for participants in the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services Transitional Housing Program Plus.

Wellnest, in addition to the Exposition Park project, also has plans for permanent supportive housing on Jefferson Boulevard in Historic South-Central.

The Exposition Park project sits across the street from Expo/Vermont Station and a pair of infill developments now taking shape along the north side of Exposition Boulevard.
