In Chinatown, construction is entering the home stretch for a mixed-use development from Portland-based NBP Capital near Los Angeles State Historic Park.

The project, located at 200 W. Mesnager Avenue, consists of a six- and seven-story building that will contain a total of 280 apartments above 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and offices space. Parking for 300 parking vehicles will be located on two subterranean levels.

GBD Architects is designing 200 Mesnager, which will be centered around a large courtyard space. Plans also call for amenities including a yoga studio, a dog park, and a swimming pool.

Completion of the more than 380,000-square-foot development was previously expected before the end of 2024.

Work continues at 200 Mesnager as construction gets underway for an even larger mixed-use project with 376 apartments a short walk south at 1457 N. Main Street. A project with 445 apartments is also planned for a nearby property at 201 Sotello Street.

Other large projects in the Chinatown area include proposed high-rise buildings overlooking L.A. State Historic Park at 942 North Broadway and on a narrow strip of land just south of the L.A. River.
