A new affordable and permanent supportive housing is coming to a busy intersection in Harbor City, according to a resolution adopted this week by the L.A. City Council.
The resolution, introduced by 15th District Councilmember Tim McCosker, would authorize the release of up to $30 million in multifamily housing revenue bond funds to an entity affiliated with Abode Communities for the construction of Western Landing, a new project which would rise at 25820-25896 S. Western Avenue. Plans for the site just south of Pacific Coast Highway call for a total of 80 residential units, plus one manager's apartment.
According to a permit application with the Department of Building and Safety, the new apartment complex would consist of three levels of prefabricated modular units stacked above a concrete podium.
Abode Communities is no stranger to the South Bay or to prefabricated modular units. The Downtown-based firm previously completed a revamp of the Dana Strand public housing complex in Wilmington, and is now building the modular Beacon Landing apartments in San Pedro.
Other Abode modular projects, funded through Measure HHH, are proposed at sites in Reseda and Chatsworth.
