Just east of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center complex in unincorporated West Carson, wood framing is start to rise for a new affordable housing complex from developer Meta Housing Corp.
The project, under construction since last year at 800 W. Carson Street, will eventually consist of a seven-story building featuring 230 one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom dwellings above a two-level subterranean parking garage.
Y&M Architects is designing the project. A landing page on the website of general contractor Milender White indicates that the finished product will present a red, white, and grey facade accented by black-framed recessed balconies when viewed from the west, and a white, black, and grey facade to the east, highlighted by a four-story mural. Plans call for amenities including a community center and multiple courtyards.
The apartments, which are to be reserved for households earning between 30 and 70 percent of the area median income level, are on track for completion in 2026, per a news release by Monarch Private Capital.
The project is one of a handful of new housing developments now in the works in the surrounding neighborhood, including the West Carson Villas from PATH Ventures and a proposed 525-unit development from GPI at 22107 S. Vermont Avenue.
West Los Angeles-based Meta Housing is also developing new projects in Westlake and Long Beach, among other locations.
