Non-profit developer EAH Housing has commenced work on a new affordable housing complex in West Hollywood.

Lexington Gardens, named for its location at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Detroit Street, will consist of a five-story edifice featuring 48 residential units, including 47 studio apartments and one two-bedroom manager’s unit.

The project at 1201 N. Detroit Street will offer apartments ranging from 384 to 447 square feet, catering to households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income level.

“Access to safe, stable, and affordable housing is one of the most pressing challenges facing our community,” said West Hollywood Mayor Chelsea Lee Byers in a news release. “With construction underway for Lexington Gardens, we’re taking a critical step in the right direction, providing people not just with a place to live, but with an opportunity to rebuild and thrive. Projects such as this strengthen the fabric of our city, ensuring that our residents have the foundation they need to pursue a bright future.”

DE Architects is designing Lexington Gardens, while Walton Construction is serving as general contractor. Plans call for a contemporary low-rise structure featuring a community room, shared laundry facilities, and space for on-site management and services.

EAH has also been attached to plans for another West Hollywood affordable housing development on Martel Avenue, and has plans for a large development in Downtown Santa Monica.
