Los Angeles-based developer Passo has commenced work on a new Executive Directive 1 affordable housing development in Sawtelle, according to permits recently issued by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety.

The project, which replaces a triplex at 1734 S. Barrington Avenue, will consists of a new six-story building featuring 37 studio and one-bedroom apartments without on-site parking.

According to an application filed earlier this year with the Planning Department, the apartment will be rented to very low-, low-, and moderate-income households, save for a single market-rate manager's unit. As a fully affordable development, the project was eligible for density bonus incentives permitting a larger building than otherwise allowed by zoning rules.

Passo, in addition to its proposed project on Barrington Avenue, has started work on similar projects along Stoner Avenue in Sawtelle and on Centinela Avenue in Del Rey.
