A filing with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning reveals a new look for a proposed affordable housing complex from Logos Faith Development across the street from Ted Watkins Park in Watts.
Gateway Place, which is being jointly developed by Grant Housing and Economic Development Corporation, would rise from a currently vacant site at 10304-10312 S. Central Avenue. The new six-story building would contain 134 one- and two-bedroom apartments above 3,624 square feet of commercial space, according to a project description.
Save for a single manager's unit, all of the apartments would be income restricted.
JZA Architecture is designing the proposed project, which is depicted as a contemporary podium-type building with a white exterior, in lieu of the earth tones of the prior iteration of the project. Plans call for a courtyard and a fifth-floor amenity deck, among other ancillary features.
The apartments at Gateway Place are expected to serve veterans, per a city notice.
Another affordable housing complex, Linc Housing's Cadence apartments, debuted in 2022 not far south along Central Avenue.
Logos Faith Development recently secured funding for a similar affordable housing complex on 85th Street in South Los Angeles.
