Wood framing is nearing its peak for a new affordable housing complex from developer Meta Housing Corp. just east of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center complex in unincorporated West Carson.

The project, which broke ground last year at 800 W. Carson Street, will consist of a seven-story building featuring 230 one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom dwellings above a two-level subterranean parking garage.

All of the apartments are to be reserved for renters earning between 30 and 70 percent of the area median income level, per a news release by Monarch Private Capital.

Y&M Architects is designing the contemporary podium-type building, which will present a white, black, and grey facade to its east and a red, white, and grey facade to its west. Plans call for amenities including a community center and multiple courtyards.

The $112-million project, which is being built by general contractor Milender White, is on track for completion in 2026.

The project is one of a handful of new housing developments now in the works in the surrounding neighborhood, including the recently-completed West Carson Villas from PATH Ventures and a proposed 525-unit development from GPI at 22107 S. Vermont Avenue.
