In Downtown Santa Monica, a new senior affordable housing complex has reached its peak just east of the E Line's western terminus.
The project, which is being developed by Tishman Speyer, is rising from a parcel located at 711 Colorado Avenue. The new seven-story building will feature 57 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments above approximately 1,848 square feet of ground-floor retail space when complete. With the exception of one manager's unit, all of the apartments are to be serve as income-restricted housing for seniors.
KFA Architecture is designing the contemporary podium-type building.
The 711 Colorado project was one of eight properties in Downtown Santa Monica which Tishman Speyer acquired in early 2022 from WS Communities. It is among the first four to break ground, following market-rate developments at 501 Broadway, 1430 Lincoln Boulevard, and 1650 Lincoln Boulevard.
The income-restricted units at 711 Colorado are intended to satisfy the off-site affordable housing requirements of the project at 1430 Lincoln Boulevard, as well as another planned building at 1313 6th Street.
