Torrential rains have recently brought raging waters to the typically docile Los Angeles River. Future residents of a new development taking shape in Frogtown will have a front row view in the event of future atmospheric rivers.

At 1771 W. Blake Avenue, Los Angeles-based Harridge Development Group continues with its buildout of a decade-old mixed-use project along the west bank of the river. Approved plans would permit up to 100 small lot homes on the east side of Blake Avenue, as well as 17 condominiums and commercial space on the west side.

Plans indicate that William Hezmalhalch Architects is designing the new housing, which will be built around a new network of private roads.

The project is the largest in a recent series of new residential developments in Frogtown, following a small lot subdivision from Watt Companies and a 52-unit apartment complex from Uncommon.

The project is relatively modest in scale for Harridge, which is behind upcoming mixed-use developments such as the high-rise Crossroads Hollywood complex on Sunset Boulevard, the adaptive reuse of a former I. Magnin department store in Koreatown, and the upcoming revamp and expansion of the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza mall.
