Just east of the 101 Freeway, construction has commenced for a high-rise development which will rank among the largest affordable housing projects in the City of Los Angeles when completed.
Residency at Sky Village Hollywood, which is being developed by ABS Properties in partnership with Kingdom Development, Inc., will rise from a site at 5645 Fernwood Avenue. Plans call for the construction of a 35-story tower featuring 523 studio and one-bedroom dwellings reserved for seniors at the moderate-, low-, and very low-income households.
Project approvals include density bonus incentives, with streamlining through the Mayor's Executive Directive 1.
Edwin Mohabir and Communitas Design are designing the project, according to plans approved by the City of Los Angeles in 2024. Plans show a 399-foot-tall tower with open space provided on a large rooftop deck.
The project is being financed through a combination of federal low-income housing tax credits, state bonds, and other money provided by Greystone Housing Impact Advisors and Columbia Pacific Advisors.
Construction is projected to be completed over a 36-month period, with completion expected in late 2029.
The project is the latest and largest of a recent string of affordable housing developments from ABS Properties in Hollywood, following the adaptive reuse of the landmark Hollywood Western Building and a ground-up nine-story building on a site at 1657 N. Western Avenue.
The SkyVillage project abuts two recently-copmpleted ground-up developments: Holland Partner Group's 185-unit Ardence & Bloom apartments and the PATH Villas Hollywood supportive housing complex.
